A sense is a physiological capacity of organisms that provides data for perception. The senses and their operation, classification, and theory are overlapping topics studied by a variety of fields, most notably neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and philosophy of perception. The most traditionally recognized human senses are sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch. Humans have a multitude of senses. Sight (ophthalmoception), hearing (audioception), taste (gustaoception), smell (olfacoception), and touch (tactioception) are the five traditionally recognized senses. Additionally, humans possess other senses, such as temperature (thermoception), kinesthetic sense (proprioception), and possibly an additional weak magnetoception (direction) and sense of time. Perception is the process in which sensory information is processed within the brain to be understood by the individual.
