Ein Bataillon ist eine militärische Einheit, die aus mehreren Kompanien besteht und normalerweise von einem Major oder Oberstleutnant kommandiert wird. Es bildet eine wichtige taktische Gruppe innerhalb des Militärs und kann in unterschiedlichen Truppenkategorien organisiert sein, wie Infanterie, Artillerie oder Panzertruppen. In der Regel setzt sich ein Bataillon aus mehreren hundert bis tausend Soldaten zusammen.
